Media Freedom for a Better Future: Shaping the post-2015 Development Agenda

©UNESCO AMMAN

UNESCO Amman Office promotes freedom of expression and freedom of the press as a basic human right. It works to foster media independence and pluralism by providing advisory services on media legislation to governments, parliamentarians and other decision-makers. The principle of freedom of expression not only applies to traditional media but also to the Internet and all types of emerging media platforms that contribute to development, democracy and dialogue.

The UNESCO Amman Office currently implements projects on media reporting in the context of electoral processes and on media reforms in Jordan. As a yearly activity, The Amman Office celebrates World Press Freedom Day in May of every year. In 2013, the main theme has been “Media Freedom for a Better Future: Shaping the post-2015 Development Agenda”.
