Sustainable Development Goals and the UNESCO Amman Office

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development represents a universal, ambitious, sustainable development agenda; an agenda “of the people, by the people and for the people,” crafted with UNESCO’s active involvement. At the UNESCO Amman office, each sector is striving to mainstream the SDGs into ongoing projects.

 

Education

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes that education is essential to the success of all 17 of its goals. Ambitions for education are primarily captured in Sustainable Development Goal 4 which is dedicated to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and to promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Read more

The work of UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences (SHS) Programme, focusing on policy advice and capacity development, makes a direct contribution to supporting Member States in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Read more

Culture

The 2030 Agenda marks a substantial step forward for sustainable development across many fields and particularly for culture as it is the first time that the international development agenda refers to culture within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals. Read more

Communication and Information

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development focuses on the importance of freedom of expression as an indispensable element for flourishing democracies and for fostering citizen participation. UNESCO believes that free, independent and pluralistic media in print, broadcast and online are needed in order to ensure the free flow of ideas by word and image. Read more
