Heritage of Humanity in Brazil: its cultural and natural riches / Patrimônio da Humanidade no Brasil: suas riquezas culturais e naturais

© UNESCO/Editora Brasileira/Marcos Piffer

The bilingual publication provides information and fancy illustrations of the 19 Brazilian sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List: 11 of these sites are classified as cultural heritage, seven as natural heritage and one – Rio de Janeiro – is in the category of cultural landscape. These sites are ruled by the 1972 Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, of which Brazil is one of the signatories. In addition, the book presents seven Brazilian elements inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO, which are ruled by the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
