Building on activities at the site and national levels, the encouragement of collaborative activities, at bilateral, sub-regional and regional levels is a crucial link in contributing to the development of the WNBRs, and in promoting the exchange of information and experience between biosphere reserves in different countries.

Examples include:

• setting-up of transboundary biosphere reserves;
• twinning arrangements between two sites in different countries;
• establishing of sub- regional, regional and thematic networks and other types of partnerships.
