Irina Bokova attends Anti-Defamation League Dinner in Honour of Shimon Peres
On 22 September, the Director-General, Irina Bokova attended the award dinner of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in Honour of President Shimon Peres, former President of the State of Israel in New York. Ambassador Ron Prosor, Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN also attended the dinner.
The event was held by the ADL to present the Distinguished Statesman Award to President Shimon Peres, in recognition of a lifetime commitment to furthering the achievement of regional and world peace and promoting the cause of pluralism, tolerance and democracy around the world. The award was presented to President Peres by Mr Abraham H. Foxman, National Director of the ADL.
The dinner also recognised Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google. On behalf of the ADL, Senator Cory Booker presented Mr Schmidt with the International Leadership Award, highlighting the role he has played in promoting connections between people across the world for greater mutual understanding and respect.
In receiving the award, Mr Schmidt of his commitment to advancing dialogue through internet connectivity as the basis for highlighting enduring problems of discrimination and for crafting solutions to these on the basis of tolerance.
