Preventing Violent Extremism

Mandate

The ad hoc Working Group on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) was established in response to the fourth review resolution of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (A/RES/68/276) and Security Council resolution 2178 (2014). The objective of the Working Group is to support the Secretary-General in his efforts to prevent violent extremism, particularly in developing his Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.

Status

Since its inception in February 2015, the ad hoc Working Group has contributed to the development of the Secretary-General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism. All CTITF entities have been consulted and have been asked to provide inputs on the impact of violent extremism, the drivers of violent extremism, priority areas to address these drivers as well as strategic and operational recommendations to Member States and the multilateral organizations on how they could support Member States in preventing violent extremism.
