This meeting will bring together representatives from over 20 institutions engaged in PVE-E, including United Nations agencies, governmental and intergovernmental institutions, non-governmental organisations and foundations. The meeting will provide a common understanding of PVE-E and the role of education, share best practices among stakeholders and identify synergies to scale-up actions and provide more effective and relevant responses to Member States' needs, through education.

Considering the growing attention of the international community on the threat of violent extremism, measures have emerged to reduce this threat to peace and coexistence. While short-term actions can reduce the menace of violent extremism activities, there is a concomitant need for ‘preventive’ actions that on the medium and long term can address the conditions conducive to violent extremism and impede violent extremist ideologies on proliferating.

Among these, education has a key role to play in creating the conditions that make it difficult for violent extremist ideologies to proliferate. It can also develop learner’s resilience and resistance to violent extremist messaging.
