Following the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues' (UNPFII) endorsement in 2017 of the IPBES Global Assessment, this is an opportunity to learn more about how Indigenous and Local Knowledge is contributing to the Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. The side event will include presentations by the authors, and will invite indigenous peoples to discuss methods and progress made in terms of the inclusion of indigenous knowledge, as well as indigenous values of nature, biodiversity management systems, land rights and environmental governance.

The side event will directly influence the further development of the draft of the Global Assessment.

Presenters/Panellists:
Eduardo S. Brondízio, Co-chair of the Global Assessment
Joji Cariño, Representative of Indigenous and Local Knowledge Centres of Distinction
Pamela McElwee, Coordinating Lead Author of the Global Assessment
Zsolt Molnár, Coordinating Lead Author of the Global Assessment

It is held during the 17th Session of the UNPFII.
