Six Creative Projects Benefit from UNESCO's Cultural Diversity Fund in 2017

On 14 December 2016, six creative initiatives from around the world have been selected as the new beneficiaries of the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) of the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. This year’s projects are:

 Each will receive funds of up to US$100,000.

The projects that had been recommended by the IFCD Panel of Experts were approved by the 24 members of the 2005 Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee, taking place at UNESCO HQ in Paris on 12-15 December. 

The IFCD is a voluntary multi-donor fund established under Article 18 of the 2005 Convention and its purpose is to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction in developing countries that are Parties to the 2005 Convention.

The goal of the IFCD is to support the implementation of the 2005 Convention and the emergence of dynamic cultural sectors in developing countries, through strengthening the means to create, produce, distribute and have access to diverse cultural goods and services.

Since 2010, the IFCD has been providing more than US$ 6 million in funding for 90 projects in 51 developing countries, covering a wide range of areas, from the development and implementation of cultural policies, to capacity-building of cultural entrepreneurs, mapping of cultural industries and the creation of new cultural industry business models.
