Committee Members

The Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict has twelve members elected by the Meeting of the Parties to the 1999 Second Protocol. In determining membership of the Committee, Parties seek to ensure an equitable representation of the different regions and cultural of the world.

In accordance with the 1999 Second Protocol, members of the Committee choose as their representatives persons qualified in the fields of cultural heritage, defence or international law, and they shall endeavour, in consultation with one another, to ensure that the Committee as a whole contains adequate expertise in all these fields. 

The current composition of the Committee is the following:

Members of the Committee elected for a four-year term (i.e. until 2019):

  • Argentina  Azerbaijan  Belgium  Cyprus  Czech Republic  Morocco

Members of the Committee elected for a four-year term (i.e. until 2021):

  • Armenia    Cambodia    Egypt    El Salvador   Italy    Japan
