Latin American and Caribbean Coalition against Racism, Discrimination and Xenophobia
In 2004, UNESCO created the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities (ICCAR) to establish a network of cities interested in sharing experiences in order to improve their policies to fight racism, discrimination, xenophobia and exclusion. In this context, regional coalitions were created in order to adapt international commitments to the peculiarities of each region.
In 2006, in Montevideo, Uruguay, the Latin American and Caribbean Coalition against Racism, Discrimination and Xenophobia was created with the participation and initial commitment of 40 cities in the region, when they designated Montevideo as their leading city.
The regional coalition aims at representing and promoting the interests of its members before international organizations with a mandate in the areas of human rights and development. It also aims at strengthen the cooperation with specialized organizations that struggle against racism and discrimination, as well as to raise awareness of the general public in Latin America and the Caribbean on the values that is promotes.
The Latin American and Caribbean Coalition against Racism, Discrimination and Xenophobia is also responsible for the implementation of the Ten-Point Plan of Action adopted in 25 October 2006 to optimize the strategies and the resources regarding its commitments.

How to join
The cities in Latin America and the Caribbean that wish to join the Coalition should express their interest by sending an e-mail to info(at)coalicionlac.org or to presidencia.coalicion(at)imm.gub.uy ,and to fill-out the membership form.
