South Asian Regional Conference: Responding to the Needs of Out Of School Adolescents Experiences

UNESCO New Delhi and Plan India, 2011 UNESCO New Delhi along with Plan India had organized a conference in New Delhi from 1-3 March 2011 on the learning and development needs of out of school adolescents’ with the overall objective to contribute to the thinking on Goal 3 (Promote learning and life skills for young people and adults) of the Education For All (EFA) Goals using the experiences of existing governmental/non governmental efforts in the South Asian Region.

Only 47 per cent of migrants in Mae Sot, Thailand’s Tak province are currently being reached by government and NGO-run HIV and AIDS programmes (Jitthai et al, 2010). A recent evaluation of the “Healthy Sexuality: The Story of Love” Exhibition at National Science Museum (NSM) of Thailand revealed interesting findings with potential implications for sexuality education efforts throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The museum exhibition was found to positively impact knowledge on key sexuality concepts among both students and teachers.

Talking sexuality education raises teachers in China’s confidence

Sexuality education is now introduced to three teacher training universities in China benefitting over 900 teacher students, thanks to a UNESCO-supported project.

Review of policies and strategies to implement and scale up sexuality education in Asia and the Pacific

Sexuality education provides young people with critical information and skills to safeguard their sexual and reproductive health. This review examines the existing frameworks present in the Asia-Pacific region to implement and scale up sexuality education. It includes a systematic review of over 300 national policies, laws, strategic plans on HIV, education, population and reproductive health, and youth in 28 countries in Asia and the Pacific.

Launch of Tertiary HIV e-Learning Distance Course (February – March 2012)

UNESCO Office, Jakarta in collaboration with University of Indonesia will launch the Tertiary HIV e-Learning Distance Course, linking 22 Universities around the nation, including two in Papua and one in Timor-Leste, with Health Promotion and HIV Prevention education. The course will be conducted in Bahasa Indonesia language.

This video resource has been produced by the Standing Committee on Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS (SCORA) within the International Federation of Medical Student's Associations. SCORA develops and promotes medical students' empowerment and activities aimed at improving sexual and reproductive health and rights led by students for the benefit of their communities.
