I am one of 7 million - YPLHIV advocacy messages

GNP+ and the World AIDS Campaign have developed key advocacy priority messages and a briefing paper by and for young people living with HIV to inform the UNGASS process. These priorities were formulated based on results from an online survey with 168 young people living with HIV from 55 countries, as well as a literature review and interviews with several key informants. The messages are available in English, French, Spanish and Russian.

Good Policy and Practice Series - Booklet 6: Pre-service Teacher Training

The Good Policy and Practice Series addresses key themes in UNESCO’s work on HIV and AIDS in the Education sector. Booklet six, on Pre-service Teacher Training, is the latest installment and highlights the key role that pre-service training plays in preparing teachers for HIV prevention and sexuality education when they take up their posts in the classroom.

UNAIDS Gender Exchange Meeting

UNESCO participated in the Gender Exchange Meeting organized by the UNAIDS Regional Support Team, UN Women, and in close collaboration with Seven Sisters. The manual is designed for people who want to develop materials in ethnic languages but are not sure how; for example, local communication and health officials, NGO workers and people from other organizations.

REDRibbon International Film Festival 2011: call for entries

This three-day event from 29th November to 1st December (World AIDS Day) recognizes that audio-visual media can impact powerfully on viewers' opinions and actions. New and effective audio-visual tools are needed in Ghana and on the African continent in the fight to drastically reduce the AIDS pandemic and its negative effects.

Adapting and Integrating International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education into Pre-Service Teacher Education in China

The UNESCO Beijing office and the Beijing Normal University organized a Teacher Training workshop on 20-23 January 2011 in Beijing for teachers from three pilot universities including Beijing Normal University, Yunnan Normal University and Henan Normal University. The International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education is based on a rigorous review of evidence on sexuality education programmes and is aimed at education and health sector decision-makers and professionals.

Teacher management in an HIV and AIDS context

Teacher management policies, tools and practices need to be reviewed and adapted to take into account the impact of HIV and AIDS on teachers. HIV related teacher management issues, such as workplace policies, access to treatment, retention, early retirement, redeployment of teachers needing care, training, and replacement of missing or absent teachers, need to be addressed.

UNESCO in Dili, Timor-Leste, Celebrates World AIDS Day 2010

To mark the World AIDS Day (WAD),UNESCO in Timor-Leste provided awards to students from senior high schools for designing outstanding posters on the theme of WAD, Universal Access & Human Rights. The event was organized by Timor-Leste’s National Commission for UNESCO in collaboration with the UNESCO Antenna Office in Dili, and support from the UNESCO Office, Jakarta.

World AIDS Day 2010 in Indonesia – Hosted by Ministry of National Education

In a groundbreaking national event, covered by national mass media (TV and Newspaper), the 2010 World AIDS Day on 1st of December was hosted by the Ministry of National Education (under direction of DG for Non-Formal and Informal Education) in collaboration with UNESCO, National Commission for UNESCO, National AIDS Commission, UN Partners, local and international NGO’s and numerous other stakeholders.

UNESCO Commemorates World AIDS Day (WAD) 2010 in Manila

In an effort to increase awareness and involvement of the Filipino youth in the response to HIV and AIDS, the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines and UNESCO Office Jakarta in partnership with the University of the East (UE) marked the 2010 World AIDS Day (WAD) in Manila, Philippines, with an Online Video Competition for young people entitled "I am the Next Generation Anti-Virus: Responding to HIV and AIDS through Responsible Choices."
