Stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV have been widely documented, and have extended their impact into the workplace. Stigmatising attitudes towards people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the workplace significantly hinder HIV prevention efforts and indirectly affect national development. This cross-sectional study was designed to determine the level of knowledge about HIV and AIDS and assess attitudes towards PLHIV among the general staff of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), as well as to identify factors that are associated with it.
This paper aims to identify with whom in-school adolescents preferred to communicate about sexuality, and to study adolescents' communication on HIV/AIDS, abstinence and condoms with parents/guardians, other adult family members, and teachers. Data were obtained from a baseline questionnaire survey carried out in South Africa (Cape Town and Mankweng) and Tanzania (Dar es Salaam) in early 2004. In 2006 the Project of Health Bandim realized a community inquiry, financed by UNFPA, about the knowledge, attitudes and practices related to HIV and AIDS.The study breaks down the population in terms of ethnicity, regions, religion and age and considers the level of knowledge people have about HIV and AIDS transmission and prevention methods. Similarly, the study considers the behaviours within social relationships that impact the spread of STIs and HIV, such as first sexual encounters, number of partners, frequency of sexual encounters and the use of condoms.

Zeenat, the wife, is a Matriculate, and Shahid her husband, though not highly educated, is a hard working farmer. Before their marriage, he used to enjoy life in the company of his friends. After his marriage, Shahid settled down to family life and proved himself to be a good husband. Through a T.V. advertisement, Zeenat comes to know that loss of weight and persistent fever are symptoms of HIV/AIDS.
