    In 2007, UNESCO commissioned this desk-based review of the global state of sex and HIV education in the formal education sector in order to inform its possible future work in this area. The review is based on twenty-two key informant interviews with experts from Africa, Europe and North and South America, together with searches of published and grey literature obtained from the internet, databases and personal recommendation, as well as manual searching of key journals. …

Cada una de estas posiciones responde a dificultades que, centradas en los adultos, impiden el normal proceso de aproximación al conocimiento.

  9. Botswana: primary: junior secondary syllabi: religious education

    The content of the revised Three Year Junior Secondary Religious Education syllabus reflects Christianity as the major religion in Botswana whilst accommodating other religions such as Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Baha’i Faith. The content also incorporates emerging and cross curricular issues including human sexuality and HIV/AIDS in relation to religious beliefs. The revised Religious Education Syllabus is suitable for learners of all religious persuasion as it does not indoctrinate nor denigrate other religions.

  10. My future is my choice

    This is a skills-based peer education programme addressing HIV prevention and risk behaviour reduction. The programme, which is based on an adaptation of two existing curricula, was developed and implemented in Namibia through a partnership between the Government of Namibia, UNICEF and the University of Maryland's School of Medicine.     This article highlights the needs of adolescent males as they go through a critical process of forming self-identity. A variety of educational approaches, community-based, school-based and peer education are described so as to inform young men about STDs and HIV/AIDS.     A teacher's handbook for secondary education consisting of resource materials based on the Interim Curriculum and Guidelines for Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) prepared by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment of Ireland. The books provide a menu of options for classroom lessons from which teachers can choose in accordance with their school RSE policy.   14. Impact of sex and HIV education programs on sexual behaviors of youth in developing and developed countries

    Sex and HIV education programs that are based on a written curriculum and that are implemented among groups of youth in school, clinic, or community settings are a promising type of intervention to reduce adolescent sexual risk behaviors. This paper summarizes a review of 83 evaluations of such programs in developing and developed countries. The programs typically focused on pregnancy or HIV/STI prevention behaviors, not on broader issues of sexuality such as developmental stages, gender roles, or romantic relationships. …
