  1. Addressing sexual health and HIV in school. Four initiatives from sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America

    This publication describes three German-supported initiatives in Africa (specifically in Guinea, Mozambique and Tanzania) and one in Latin America (a six-country regional initiative). All integrate sexual health and HIV prevention within school systems. The three African initiatives operate within generalized epidemics driven largely by unprotected sex between men and women. In Latin America general prevalence in the countries described here is well below one percent, and much less among young people. …

    This review is a synthesis of situation-response analyses (SRA) on the education sector response to HIV, drugs and sexual health undertaken in five countries: Brunei Darussalam (2012), Indonesia (2010), Malaysia (2012), the Philippines (2012) and Timor-Leste (2012). The five SRAs were developed and supported by UNESCO Jakarta (Regional Office for Science and Cluster office for Education) in close consultation with the Ministry of Education (MoE) of each country and in most cases have received official statements of endorsement from each respective ministry. …

  3. Education sector response to HIV, drugs and sexuality in Indonesia: an assessment on the integration of HIV and drugs, reproductive health, and drug abuse issues in junior and secondary schools in Riau Islands, Dki Jakarta, West Kalimantan, Bali, Maluku and Papua

    This assessment has been conducted to provide an overview of the education sector's response to the current HIV epidemic in Indonesia, and to offer a set of recommendations meant to complement and strengthen the response.     This paper describes findings from a recent UNAIDS-funded study of how education systems in selected countries in East Asia, South East Asia and the Pacific are responding to HIV/AIDS-related education. Data were collected by means of postal questionnaire and key informant interviews in Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Thailand and Vietnam.Sources of information varied but included ministries, non-governmental organisations and other interested bodies. …
