Survey on the possible lighter ways of sharing Intangible Cultural Heritage safeguarding practices

Sharing living heritage safeguarding practices© UNESCO

For more than 10 years, the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has been implemented worldwide. Many organizations and institutions have been developing activities at different scales and in multiple domains to address complex situations. How can such experiences benefit others? What are some of the ways these experiences can be shared?

The 2003 Convention includes a Register of good safeguarding practices, but States Parties have requested that UNESCO complement it with alternative, lighter ways of sharing safeguarding experiences. In this context, UNESCO is launching a worldwide survey to collect information from key actors who are working on ICH safeguarding on the ground to shed new light on the challenges involved.

If your organization is contributing directly or indirectly to the safeguarding of ICH, traditions, knowledge or customs transmitted through generations, UNESCO is seeking your advice in a survey, structured as follows:

  1. Description of your organization
  2. Your organization and the 2003 Convention
  3. Your organization as a user of other safeguarding experiences
  4. Your organization as a provider of safeguarding experiences
  5. Overall recommendations for the development of simple ways of sharing safeguarding experiences

We invite you to participate in the survey opened from 1 June to 13 July 2018. It takes from 20 to 30 minutes to complete:

Please feel free to disseminate this message so that we can reach the widest possible range of organizations and institutions. Should you have any questions or need clarifications, please contact:
