Intended for those responsible for planning and implementing IEC and BCC interventions such as programme planners, programme managers and IEC personnel, the book serves as a guide for planning BCC campaigns or as a source of ideas for campaigns. It also offers a set of RH messages including adolescent reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, and safe motherhood, that have been developed in partnership with the various organizations working in the field of RH in Myanmar.

The report describes the methodology and findings of a direct interview survey in Thailand of parents of deceased adult children who died of AIDS and a comparison group of older age parents who had not suffered such a loss. The results provide extensive information on living arrangements; parental care giving; health impacts; spouses and orphaned children; care, treatment and funeral expense; longer term economic impacts; and community reaction.

The study described in this paper takes a participatory and positive approach to improving adolescent reproductive health in a rural and urban community in Nepal. It shows that adolescent girls in these communities have dreams and aspirations for a better future and that adults acknowledge and support these ideals. However, social norms and institutions are restrictive, especially for girls, who are often unable to realise their hopes for continuing education, finding better-paid work or delaying marriage and childbearing, and this directly impacts reproductive outcomes. …

The purpose of the reproductive health survey was to gather information on fertility, infant and child mortality, family planning and maternal and child health to help in the execution and evaluation of the National Reproductive Health Programme which is carried out by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare with support from UNFPA.
The LRHS 2000, funded by UNFPA was undertaken with the purpose of providing up-to-date information on fertility levels, determinants of fertility, fertility preferences, family planning, infant and child mortality, reproductive health and child health, including breastfeeding, and knowledge of RTIs/STDs and HIV/AIDS. The information is intended to assist policy makers and programme managers in planning, designing, managing and evaluating programmes. It is also meant to improve birth spacing/family planning services in the country.

The report focuses on the following three key questions: What is the actual and likely impact of HIV/AIDS on teachers and other MOES staff? What is the actual and likely impact on the education of primary and secondary school students who are directly affected by the epidemic? What has been and what should be done in the future to prevent HIV infection among teachers and students as well as support for all those who are directly affected by the epidemic?
