Connections is an adolescent and parent programme that helps girls and their mothers to become more confident and comfortable to talk about gender, relationships and sex. The programme provides information and life-skills around issues including puberty, growing up, relationships, dating, sexuality, pregnancy prevention, gender rights, alcohol use and parent-to-adolescent communications. The programme covers both the biological aspects of sex, and broader relational aspects such as peer and romantic relationships, love, reproduction, gender rights, HIV, risk-taking and peer influence. …

In Africa, men play key roles in reproductive health - as individuals, family members, community decision-makers, and national leaders. Most reproductive health care, however, focuses on women. Reaching men is key to making family planning more widely used, ensuring safe motherhood, and limiting the spread of HIV/AIDS. The conference focused on reaching men by overcoming barriers to men's participation and building on decisionmaking traditions in the region.
Soul City, a multi-media health project in South Africa has been effective in imparting much needed information on health and development, and in changing attitudes and behaviour as well. Soul City works primarily within South Africa but the TV programme has been shown in a number of African countries as well. In the last two years Soul City has worked on a sponsored education booklet called Choose Life, aimed at 12-16 year olds in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia. 1,331,000 copies of the booklet will be printed and distributed in the four countries in seven different languages. …

The Sex Education Forum is a unique collaboration of diverse organisations representing children, parents, faith, disability, health and education. We believe thatáall children and young people are entitled to high quality sex and relationships education (SRE), which includes learning about HIV and AIDS. The House of Lords began an ad-hoc Select Committee on HIV and AIDS in the United Kingdom in January 2011 and is due to report in July 2011. One of the things the committee is investigating is whether education about HIV and AIDS is adequate and how to improve it. …

The 10th Asia Pacific Alliance (APA) Conference and Meetings were held in Penang, Malaysia and brought together a richly diverse group of representatives from 16 different countries. Through workshops and plenary, members and stakeholders discussed this year's theme "Investing in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for the MDGs: Priorities Leading up to 2015 and beyond". SAYWHAT hosted its third edition of the female Students conference at Belvedere Technical Teachers' College from the 6th to the 8th of August 2009 under the theme "Strengthening Capacity and Networks on Reproductive Health Rights". 91 female students from 35 tertiary institutions participated and managed to dialogue with female programmers from PSI, SAfAIDS, Action AID, College authorities as well as an Honorable Deputy Minister among others. …
The Symposium "Working on HIV and AIDS in education: System and workplace responses for and by education sector workers" took place in Brussels, Belgium on 2 December 2010. The Symposium was convened by the UNAIDS Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) on Education and preceded the UNAIDS IATT on Education's members meeting on 3 December 2010.
