Another earthquake struck the region of Oaxaca, Mexico on Saturday 23 September, further devastating a region where more than 400 people have been killed by two other powerful earthquakes this month.

The Mexican authorities are carrying out coordinated actions at the federal, state and municipal levels and with the inhabitants of the affected regions to prepare a comprehensive and precise report of damage to buildings with historic and cultural value.

For the time being, preliminary reports have been produced by the competent Mexican institutions. According to the first data available, hundreds of historic and cultural monuments seem to be affected by the 19 September earthquake, a number of which are linked to UNESCO World Heritage properties. In addition, there was considerable impact from the earthquake registered on 7 September, concerning in particular the State of Oaxaca and the State of Chiapas.

Consolidated reports on the situation will follow.
