This workshop will gather 20 participants from the Arab countries and aims to enhance capacities for promoting Adult learning and education (ALE) development in the Arab States in the light of the Belém Framework for Action BFA issued from the 2009 Sixth International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VI) and the the 2015 Recommendation on Adult Learning and Education (RALE).

Amid constant changes in the political, social and economic spheres in the Arab States, ALE has become an essential driving force to achieve sustainable development. Evidence shows that adult education leads to positive changes such as healthier living and labour market conditions, thereby contributing to a more sustainable society. In particular, youth and adults who make up the workforce require high-quality ALE opportunities to enable them to become more active participants in their societies. This calls for responsive strategies and policies at both national and regional levels, as well as monitoring mechanisms to assess the quality of learning and oversee progress in ALE initiatives. Reliable data are a prerequisite for enabling policy-makers to understand developments in ALE and thereby promote relevant policies and find solutions to existing needs.
