First editorial board meeting to discuss 2017 edition of Global Report on the monitoring of the 2005 Convention
This first meeting of the editorial board of the 2017 Global Report on the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, will be held from 21 to 23 September 2016 in Vienna, Austria, with the support of the Arts and Culture Division of the Federal Chancellery of Austria, and the Austrian National Commission for UNESCO.
The 2015 edition of the Global Report, “Re|Shaping Cultural Policies: A decade promoting the Diversity of Cultural Expression for Development”, was published in December 2015. The second edition will be published in December 2017.
The biennial Global Report series is conceived as a tool to monitor the implementation of the 2005 Convention since it entered into force in 2007, and to facilitate information sharing and knowledge production related to the main challenges of the implementation process, with particular focus on four areas of monitoring: systems of governance for culture; flow of cultural goods and services and mobility of artists; culture in sustainable development; human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The Global Report is part of a broader project on policy monitoring entitled “Enhancing fundamental freedoms through the promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions”, funded by the Government of Sweden.
The meeting will also include on 22 September a public launch of the 2015 edition of the Global Report. The launch event is organized by the Austrian Commission for UNESCO, the Federal Chancellery (Art and Culture Division), in cooperation with the Österreichische Kulturdokumentation. The debates for the launch will focus on three policy areas covered by the Global Report: artistic freedom; gender equality; the new digital environment.This event will also serve to present the German version of the Executive Summary. This translation is the fruit of a collaborative effort led by the National Commissions for UNESCO of Austria, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
