19 November 2018

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has denounced the killing of broadcast journalist Mohammad Salim Angar in the city of Kandahar, in the south of Afghanistan.

“I condemn the killing of Mohammad Salim Angar,” said the Director-General. “His death comes as a tragic reminder of the shocking number of media workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, to keep the public inform.”

Mohammad Salim Angar, a television journalist working for public broadcaster TV Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) was killed in a shooting at the governor's compound in Kandahar City while covering a meeting between senior Afghan and American officials on 18 October.
