Mirada | The Ibero-American Festival of Performing Arts in Santos

From 5 to 15 September, Santos’ theatres, public spaces and historic buildings were occupied by the 5th edition of Mirada Ibero American Festival of Performing Arts, featuring productions from 13 Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries.

Carried out by SESC Institute, the festival brought to Santos 41 theatre, dance and media arts shows from Colombia, Brazil, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Portugal, and Spain. Colombia was this edition’s featured country, with nine shows performed in Brazil, and with the opening of Mirada showcasing “Labio de Liebre”, a production of Teatro Petra from Bogota, a UNESCO Creative City of Music.

Danilo Santos de Miranda, Director of Sesc São Paulo said: “In a world shaken by frequent socioeconomical and humanitarian crises, one way for Sesc to manifest its co-responsibility is to maintain a schedule of festivals and several events aiming to promote encounters, exchanges, reflections, and collective debates.”

The festival also involved other Creative Cities, particularly of the field of Design, namely Curitiba, Brazil and Buenos Aires, Argentina, to foster exchanges on costume design on aside workshops for cultural entrepreneurs and professionals. Members of the UCCN such as Bogota, Colombia (Music) and Salvador, Brazil (Music) also took part in the festival.
