Krakow and Wroclaw: Guests of Honor at Salon du livre de Paris

Krakow and Wroclaw: Guests of Honor at Salon du livre de Paris

When:
Fri, 03/20/2015 to Mon, 03/23/2015
The "Salon du livre" is the second largest literature event in the world after the Frankfurt Book Fair. It combines large-scale promotion of reading with industry events. Since 1981, close to 200,000 people visit the stands at Salon du livre every spring, where nearly 1200 publishers from 25 countries exhibit their offer in the 55,000 m² exhibition center, the Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris.

The special guests of the Salon du livre have included: Umberto Eco, Paul Auster, Doris Lessing, Carlos Fuentes, Allen Ginsberg, Herta Müller, José Saramago and Salman Rushdie. In 2015, Krakow (UNESCO City of Literature since 2013) and Wroclaw (World Book Capital in 2016) will be the Salon's literary cities presenting their most interesting and influential authors . It's a great distinction, a contribution to the promotion of Polish culture in the French speaking world, and an opportunity to strengthen the Polish book market and to boost translation of Polish literature. This year the capitals of Lower Silesia and Lesser Poland will join the ranks of Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Moscow and Shanghai, who presented at the Paris Book Fair in previous years.
