Support Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) in Afghanistan

The only member of the United Nations family with a mandate specifically focused on education, UNESCO possesses a breadth and depth of technical expertise and unparalleled global networks in the education field. Furthermore, central to this mandate is a recognition of the instrumental role education must play in achieving a lasting peace, and laying the foundations for sustainable, inclusive development. UNESCO has utilized its knowledge and experience to work closely with its partners in Afghanistan across several key areas. UNESCO provides ongoing technical support in the areas of policy and strategic planning to the Ministry of Education (MoE) through its regular programme.

UNESCO currently has three major education programmes underway in Afghanistan, the support for Sector Wide Policy and Planning, the Capacity Development for Education 2030 (CapED) programme focused on the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector, support curriculum reform in Afghanistan and promote Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) and the Enhancement of Literacy in Afghanistan (ELA) programme which is aimed at improving literacy standards.
