Coalition of Latin American and Caribbean Cities against Racism, Discrimination and Xenophobia

Led by the city of Montevideo, Uruguay, the Coalition of Latin American and Caribbean Cities against Racism, Discrimination and Xenophobia gathers 67 municipalities from 23 countries committed to fighting all forms of discrimination in city-level policies and programmes.

City members are committed to integrate a Ten-Point Plan of Action into their municipal strategies, adapting existing policies and introducing new normative action against racism, xenophobia and discrimination. The set of practical guidelines reflects specificities and priorities of Latin America and the Caribbean and covers areas as diverse as education, employment, housing and culture.

The Latin American and Caribbean coalition is one of the seven national and regional gathering compacts of the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities – ICCAR. The global network platform of UNESCO assists local authorities in the design and planning of inclusive and sustainable policy-making and service delivery.

Launched in 25-27 October 2006 in Montevideo, on the occasion of the Forum of Ibero-American mayors, the Latin American and Caribbean coalition has joined forces to establish a work programme for more effective measures in combating discrimination. In 2017, a funding proposal was approved by the Inter-American Development Bank to conduct related research and capacity-building activities.
