Media in Post-Conflict and Natural Disaster Situations
UNESCO supports independent media in post-conflict and post-disaster situations to enable them to gather and disseminate non-partisan and accurate information. In this respect, the assistance provided to independent media in Afghanistan, Angola, East Timor, the Great Lakes Region in Africa, Haiti, the Middle East, Pakistan, and South East Europe has contributed to peace building and reconciliation processes.
UNESCO’s action in this area includes the promotion of dialogue among media professionals in conflict zones with the outside world, and advice to the authorities of countries in post-conflict situations in drafting media legislation to enhance the development of freedom of expression.
