Project timeline

The indicators project draws on two main types of evidence:

  1. Desk research into existing indicators and measurement of the internet
  2. An extensive programme of multistakeholder consultation.

It is divided into two main phases.

The first phase, from May to October 2017, focused on broad principles for internet indicators. A report on the first phase, including options for specific indicators, is available here.

The second phase, from November 2017 to March 2018, focuses on options for specific indicators. An updated version of the indicators will be available in May 2018.

A two-phase online consultation process to which all stakeholders are encouraged to respond is being facilitated through this website. The first phase lasted until October 2017 and focused on broad principles for internet indicators. A second consultation, on options for specific indicators, was launched in November 2017 and will be open until 15 March 2018.

UNESCO has also organised a series of face-to-face consultations at international meetings and in individual countries. The schedule for these consultation meetings can be found here.
