Christiane Amanpour, Chief International Correspondent for CNN, was appointed as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Freedom of Expression and Journalists Safety in April 2015.

Her designation came in recognition of her commitment to promote the fundamental human rights of freedom of expression in particular press freedom and access to information.

As a board member of the Committee to Protect Journalists, the Centre for Public Integrity and the International Women’s Media Foundation, she has used her profile to raise awareness of key global issues.

In her capacity as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Freedom of Expression and Journalist Safety, she contributed to the success of major events such as the celebration of World Press Freedom Day as well as the Conference on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. On these occasions, experts, officials and journalists were brought together to stand together for freedom of expression and press freedom.

In addition, she took part in a High-level Panel entitled “Protecting Civilians by Upholding International Humanitarian Law”, held in June 2015 in Swizerland.
