Memorandum of Understanding - Ministry of Culture, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
To strengthen the country's public libraries so they may be recognized as spaces that offer services with a creative use of technology and respond to the needs and expectations of their users through the promotion of reading, and cultural and community development activities.
The aim of this Project is to promote the social appropriation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and use these tools to help communities strengthen reading, writing and learning skills; recover their collective memory; access more easily literature, education and media, and consolidate innovation and economic well-being. This will in turn allow new manifestations of the tangible and intangible heritage to appear all around the country.
In a period of three years, starting in March 2015, this national proposal aims to improve the physical and technological conditions of libraries through the delivery of complementary technologies to 1,200 of them, and to implement a scheme for the training of 1,800 librarians in the use of technology, in service design and provision and in the positioning of public libraries.
