The Bulgarian Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art will organize the 17th edition of its International Fair of Traditional Crafts, to be held from 6 to 8 September 2019 at the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum (Etar).
On 19 and 20 November, the Turkish Creative City of Kütahya will be hosting the first International Ahmet Yakupoğlu City, Art and Design Symposium. The event will be interdisciplinary and will cover the fields of art, design, city, history, architecture, miniature and urban aesthetics. For its first edition, a focus will be put on the life and work of painter Ahmet Yakupoğlu and the identity of the city of Kütahya.
Until 10 December, Porto-Novo, Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art in Benin, invites the scientific community to submit contributions around the theme “Divinatory systems in Africa in a context of globalization: issues and perspectives”. The selected reflection papers will be presented at the Scientific Symposium of the third edition of the Porto-Novo International Festival to be held on 7 and 8 January 2019.
From 1st to 4 November, in celebration of the fifth anniversary of Paducah’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City, the 14th annual River's Edge International Film Festival (REIFF) will spotlight the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
From 9 to 14 September, the 19th National Handicraft Exhibition was held in the Creative City of Isfahan, in the historical garden-museum of Chehleston Palace. 120 booths from all the provinces of Iran showcased handicraft products at this large-scale exhibition, which highlights Iranian handicrafts every year in September.
From 1 to 5 October, the Turkish Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art will be holding the third edition of its Dumlupınar Çini and Handicraft Festival. Organized by the Municipality and Dumlupınar University, Kütahya will showcase its rich expertise in çini making – a ceramic ware using glass powder, quartz and clay. As a newly designated UNESCO Creative City, Kütahya will also share its experience in managing cultural and creative industries through strong public-private partnerships.
On 7 September, the Iranian Creative City hosted a TEDx event under the theme “Untold Stories of Isfahan”. This event offered a series of eight lectures by thinkers and experts from different walks of life and from a variety of fields, including science, entrepreneurship and creativity, with the aim to share their vision and experience of Isfahan and its communities.
During the entire month of June 2018, the artist Mitch Kimball from Paducah Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art, participated in the Pottery Workshop and had the opportunity to experience life in Jingdezhen, as well as explore traditional Chinese methods of ceramics production.
The Creative City of Isfahan bears witness to more than 190 forms of Crafts and Folk Art. It has also be awarded the world city of handicrafts by the World Crafts Council (WCC).
From 25 to 29 August, the city will organize its first handicraft summer school for young people to train them in design, production and selling processes in the field of handicrafts. The summer school aims to:
A group of five young sculptors, students of academies of fine arts from different parts of Italy applied to a dedicated call to the Carrara Creative City Award. The finalists took part in a workshop in a historic art and sculpture laboratory/studio of Carrara for a month, during which they worked on their artwork.
