The curtain goes up for «I was there: Montréal meets Graz»

Two Creative Cities of Design, Montréal (Canada) and Graz (Austria) launched in May 2015 the exhibit «I was there: Montréal meets Graz», which is the central hub of Montréal’s presence at the Design Month in Graz.

On a path through six exciting zones, the public was invited to partake in surprising, immersive Montréal experiences and to enjoy the full splendor of some 40 Montréal designers’ talents. Visitors were able to experience the rigor of Montréal winters by wandering through a Tempo shelter with projected snowstorms; view textile objects, posters and souvenir cards displayed on laundry lines that echo the spirit of Montréal alleyways; pedal a Bixi bike to power a variable-speed projection of Guillaume Blanchet’s short film «The Man Who Lived on His Bike»; enjoy, with their eyes, gourmet products set out on a large picnic table; discover the simple pleasures of objects displayed by their creators in suitcase-boxes, each expressing a personal vision of Montréal.

The 40 designers whose products appeared in the exhibition have each been featured in one of the three editions of the CODE SOUVENIR MONTRÉAL catalogue, an initiative of the Ville de Montréal’s Bureau du design that looks for showcasing Montréal design and promoting the commercialization of made-in-Montréal gift items. Six of the 40 designers flew to Graz to take part in Design Month and develop new markets for their products.
