From 5 to 15 September, Santos’ theatres, public spaces and historic buildings were occupied by the 5th edition of Mirada Ibero American Festival of Performing Arts, featuring productions from 13 Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries.
Santos, a UNESCO Creative City of Film, will soon host its third Santos Film Festival (SFF), a major cultural event focusing on the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Under the theme What the world do we wish for?, this year’s SFF will aim to strengthen film as an educational means to enhance idea sharing and culture exchange.
  Following the Call for Bids and the selection process, the city of Santos, a UNESCO Creative City of Film from Brazil, has been selected by the member cities to be the Host City of the 2020 UCCN Annual Meeting. The UCCN Secretariat wishes to congratulate Santos for its selection, and extend its gratitude to Belém (Brazil) and Puebla (Mexico), the other two finalists, as well as to Nassau (Bahamas) and Isfahan (Iran), for their commitment to the selection process.
Santos’s Creative EcoFactory addresses issues of social development and inclusion in a city recovering from a history of financial crises and high unemployment. This initiative supports vulnerable people within the community by helping them develop a skillset in woodwork and offering potential career paths within the Old Market District.
Since its designation in 2015, Santos, Creative City of Film has been able to combine technological innovation, cultural diversity and urban sustainable development through its wide range of initiatives. In particular, the city showed how creativity plays a key role for urban renewal and inclusion of vulnerable groups and community empowerment in its Film festival CulturalMente as well as in the recycling center called Creative Ecofactory.  
The Creative Ecofactory, an initiative led by Santos in Brazil, a Creative City of Film, was awarded the 2017 iFSocial Impact Prize. The World Design Guide – organizer of the prize – awards outstanding projects that aim to contribute positive results to society.
From 8 to 10 December, the UNESCO Creative City of Film Santos will host the 6th edition of the CulturalMente Santista - Santos Cultural and Creative Forum. This year, this major cultural festival will be highlighting the United Nations Agenda 2030.
Santos, Brazil, a Creative City of Film, and Bandung, Indonesia, a Creative City of Design are coming together to organize the Santos Bandung Film Festival (SBFF) from 20 to 29 October 2017.
