On 30 April, the inhabitants of Hannover, UNESCO Creative City of Music, will gather in the famous KröpckeClock Tower of the city center for a flashmob to celebrate the International Jazz Day. Professional musicians, music students and the city’s inhabitants will gather toghter and dance the music “Dr. John’s Revenge”, the well-known hit of the Hannover’s composer Jörn Marcussen-Wulkf.
In April, four musicians from Bologna will be in Hannover to perform at the Klangbrücken Festival, an acclaimed event dedicated to the discovery of contemporary music. Organized by the Nordstandt-Konzert and the prestigious Chamber Orchestra of Hannover, the event is also supported by the municipalities of the two cities.
On 21 June, musicians from three Creative Cities of Music have met and performed at Fête de la Musique in Hannover, Germany. An annual music festival celebrated by many countries around the world, Hannover has, this year, set up a “city of music stage” which featured not only local bands but also bands from other Creative Cities of Music, such as Dan Astles from Liverpool, Kolory from Katowice, and Subliminal Legacy from Idanha-a-Nova.
Musicians from the two UNESCO Creative Cities of Music will meet at the International Choir Festival of Hannover, Chortage Hannover. Sense of Sound Singers with Jennifer John from Liverpool and Sub5 from Hannover will be performing together at the festival.
The philosophy of the MASALA Weltbeat Festival is “diversity”, just like masālā, the fiery mixture of spices of Indian cuisine. The main program of the festival's 22 year-long history, has showcased 290 bands from more than 80 different countries.
On 20 October, Hannover, Creative City of Music, will be organizing the Digital Sounds Conference, a specialised meeting for auditory design and experience. The name and concept Digital Sounds links sound design, acoustic listening, the music industry and the digital industry. The focus will be placed on digitisation in these fields, since in the future they will be closely linked to the digital industry, as acoustic experiences will be increasingly generated digitally and acoustic listening supported digitally.
On 21 June, Hannover will celebrate the Fête de la musique with other Creative Cities of Music: Glasgow, Mannheim and Bologne. Everyone in the city will be able to take part in the festivities. Not only as amateur, but also as on several stages and workshops where one can learn to play an instrument and join sing-a-long activities.
On 30 April 2016, UNESCO will be celebrating the 5th edition of the International Jazz Day, which will be hosted by Washington, D.C. On this occasion, the Director General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, has highlighted “ […] the power of music to build peace and bring together people of all cultures and backgrounds ”.
