The German Foreign Office has announced a funding increase to support the work of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL). The voluntary contribution from Germany will be increased by EUR 1.2 million in 2019.
The funds will contribute to UIL’s work in supporting Member States in promoting literacy and lifelong learning opportunities for all, within the context of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This includes guiding the development of policies that enable access to education and learning for youth and adults, particularly women, those who have dropped out of school or never had access to formal education, strengthening institutional capacities and promoting international exchanges and cooperation in lifelong learning
David Atchoarena, UIL’s Director, said: ‘This is important news for UIL. It will give us a stable platform from which we can continue and further develop our work, strengthening our core areas of focus while allowing us to deepen our activities in priority areas such as Africa, education for migrants and refugees, and gender equality.’
