This survey was conducted to better understand the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people in seven countries in Southeastern Europe: five in the Western Balkans-Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, and Montenegro; as well as two European Union (EU) member states, Croatia and Slovenia. In recent years, local and national authorities in countries around the world have adopted wide-ranging measures to address human rights violations against lesbian, gay, bi, trans (LGBT) and intersex people. The present study references more than 200 such initiatives introduced in 65 countries in every region of the world. While not comprehensive, the study provides an overview of policy trends, highlighting positive developments and drawing attention to areas that require further action.
This module on sexual and reproductive rights is the third in a series of human rights education resources for young people. It is designed to be used by and with young people and youth activists as they support their peers through individual and collective journeys of reflection, critical analysis and action. This includes having the knowledge and skills to engage in difficult conversations on a taboo subject and to stand up for sexual and reproductive rights.
The Call for Action by Ministers, the first of its kind on homophobic and transphobic violence in education, was issued on the final day of the 17-18 May 2016 UNESCO event. The purpose of the meeting, was to raise political momentum for a meaningful agreement to tackle this violence in educational settings. It drew together Ministers and representatives from government, civil society, UN agencies and other multi-lateral agencies.
