    BACKGROUND: Over a third of new HIV infections globally are among 15-24 year-olds and over 20% among adolescents aged 10-19 years in Asia Pacific.   9. The Role of Nonformal Education in Combating the HIV Epidemic in the Philippines and Taiwan

    This study compares the approaches of Taiwan and the Philippines in mitigating their HIV epidemics using non-formal educational programs. The Philippines has an HIV prevalence of 6,000-11,000 cases out of a population of 91 million. Their approach was to target female sex workers and their managers, before expanding to men in the community, and relying heavily on NGOs to provide sex education. Taiwan was a prevalence of 40,000 cases out of a 23 million person population. …

  15. Evaluation of preventive actions against STDs/AIDS and drug abuse in elementary and high schools in Brazilian capitals

    This document presents an evaluation of the process, results and impact of the initiative to promote health and prevent sexually transmitted diseases among adolescents and youth in the school environment (in Brazilian schools), on the basis of research carried out in 340 schools in 14 state capitals.
