Extraordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) and its Permanent Consultative Council

The CIGEPS extraordinary session will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 28 to 29 March 2019.

Marking a dynamic of enhanced cooperation within the UN system in the field of sport, it will be hosted by the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The main agenda items of the meeting will be:

(i) the revision of the statutes of CIGEPS ;

(ii) the follow-up and implementation of the Kazan Action Plan (KAP) adopted by the Sixth International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education ad Sport (MINEPS VI) in 2017 and the launch of preparations for MINEPS VII to be held in 2021;

(iii) as well as the alignment between the UN Action Plan on Sport for Peace and Development and the KAP.

The Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) was established in 1978 to promote the role and value of sport and its inclusion in public policy. CIGEPS is comprised of expert representatives in the field of physical education and sport from 18 UNESCO Member States, each elected for a four year term. The Permanent Consultative Council (PCC), comprising key sport federations, UN agencies and NGOs, provides technical support and advice to the Committee.
