The UNESCO Regional Office in Abuja, in collaboration with the Lagos State University (Department of Philosophy), is organizing a two-day MOST Syndicated Workshop on the theme: “The Open Society and Its Imperatives to Nigeria for Effective Peace and Security Governance”. This workshop aims to create a bridge between evidence–based scientific knowledge and research-policy interface. it will be held on 29-30 March 2019 at Lagos State University, Nigeria.

This workshop falls under the UNESCO Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme, and one of its priority themes; “good governance and peace building”.

It is part of the the Karl Popper for Africa International Conference under the theme: “Karl Popper, Knowledge and Politics in Contemporary Africa”.

The workshop will bring together a diversity of stakeholders, including university professors, researchers identified from different institutions and academic disciplines, policy-makers, security forces, civil society organizations and media professionals to exchange knowledge and ideas through presentations, interactive sessions and open discussions around the following five sub-themes:
1. Bridging Research and Policy-Making for Peace and Security Governance,
2. Ethno-Religious Diversity and National Unity: The Imperative of Tolerance
3. The Preconditions for Press Freedom in the Open Society
4. Key Steps for Consolidating Democracy in the Open Society and
5. Gender Perspectives to Peace and Security in the Open Society.

The main objective of this workshop is to produce a critical mass of knowledge that will inform the production of a policy brief to guide on evidence-based approach to policy-making peace and security challenges architecture in Nigeria.
