Safety Training for Women Journalist in West Kordofan

On 21-24 January 2019, the Sudanese Journalists Union (SJU) with support of the UNESCO Khartoum Office organized a training workshop on Safety for Women Journalists in El Fula, West Kordofan, for 22 women journalists and media workers from the West Kordofan, South Kordofan, North Kordofan, Central Darfur, West Darfur and North Darfur states. The training was funded by the International Programme for Developing Communications (IPDC).

 

The opening session was addressed by the state Governor, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Mahgoub Agab Elfaya, who welcomed the workshop team and participants, and confirmed strong support of his government for projects developing women in general, and women journalists in particular. The Governor also called for the adoption of realistic programs for peace building, conflict resolution and rural women's issues. He praised the large attendance of women journalists from western Sudan in the training, and stressed on the importance of the workshop. Mr. Aboud Abdul Rahim from SJU confirmed the importance of capacity building covering all areas of journalism, praised the training program originated by UNESCO underlining the fact that this program is the biggest one in the SJU. Mrs. Hadia Ali, Secretary for Women Affairs in the SJU, invited women trainees to maximize their benefits from the training, and develop their behavioral patterns that address the circumstances of the professional reality of the Sudanese women journalists, ease their everyday life, and minimize risks faced by them in their careers. She thanked UNESCO for support and encouragement.

On the last day, the workshop finished with the participation of the President of SJU, Mr. El Sadiq El Rizagi, members of the SJU executive office and states’ branches, and government officials from West Kordofan. The trained women journalists for western Sudan received the certificates.
