  1. Do information technologies improve teenagers' sexual education? Evidence from a randomized evaluation in Colombia

    Across public junior high schools in 21 Colombian cities, we conducted a randomized evaluation of a mandatory six-month internet-based sexual education course. Six months after finishing the course, we find a 0.4 standard deviation improvement in knowledge, a 0.2 standard deviation improvement in attitudes, and a 55% increase in the likelihood of redeeming vouchers for condoms as a result of taking the course. …

    In October 2017 a workshop was held in Accra for the conversion of HIV and AIDS alert materials into Braille version for visually impaired pupils and students across Ghana. Participation were made up of a technical team from the Ghana Braille Press, of the Ghana Education Service (GES), as well as other officers from the Ministry of Education, HIV and AIDS Secretariat, the School Health Education Programme of GES and Special Education Division of the GES. …

  3. Turning inside out

    UNESCO in partnership with Ministry of Education and with financial support from the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, community and Civil society organizations implemented a two year Health Literacy and Behaviour Change practices among Adolescent Girls pilot project from September 2014-September 2017 in 41 schools. Health literacy materials were evaluated and approved by Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (K.I.C.D.) for use in other informal settlements.     This study essentially aimed to establish if there is a peer education programme at Mnambithi TVET College focusing on SRH and HIV prevention and whether the services rendered are adolescent and youth friendly. It therefore investigated the status of these two factors, identified gaps and proposed solutions. The report begins with a brief discussion of what the study was about, how it was conceptualised and what it aimed to achieve.   5. A sexual and reproductive health peer education programme for girls in grades 7 to 9. Mentor’s manual

    This sexual and reproductive health (SRH) peer education programme was developed as part of the Department of Basic Education’s (DBE) Leveraging Partnerships to Achieve the Goals of South Africa’s HIV & AIDS and STI National Strategic Plan 2012–16, otherwise known as Keeping Girls in School. The aim of this component of the programme is to shift social norms and change sexual behaviour by reinforcing and supporting the SRH messages received via the curriculum in order to increase retention and reduce the risk of HIV infection and teenage pregnancy.

    Sex workers are amongst those most affected by HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) issues in Ethiopia. Stigma and discrimination towards sex workers affects their ability to access SRHR information, education and services. In 2014, the Link Up project in Ethiopia implemented a model of peer education and outreach to empower young people who sell sex (aged 15 – 24 years) and increase their access to HIV and SRHR services.     Background: Worldwide, about 50 % of all new cases of HIV occur in youth between age 15 and 24 years.
