National Forum on Technical and Vocational Education and Training reform in Mongolia

The 2019 National Forum on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform organized in collaboration with the Mongolia Ministry of Labour and Social Protection will focus on “Quality TVET Reform for Sustainable Development”. The UNESCO led forum aims to review and discuss the current alignment, gaps and challenges in Mongolia’s TVET sector policy and regulatory framework, strategies and plans and global priorities and framework.

The forum will also be an opportunity to launch the two newly designated UNEVOC Centres that are now connected to the global hub of TVET Centres as key platform for knowledge sharing of best practices. The Forum is co-organized by UNESCO Beijing Office, UNESCO UNEVOC Bonn Center, UNESCO Section of Youth, Literacy and Skills Development (HQ), Mongolian Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MLSP), and the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO. Among the other TVET stakeholders, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection will attend the Forum.

The Mongolian government strategically repositioning its policies to strengthen the TVET sector aligned to the needs of the labour market. As Mongolia transitioned into a market economy, the country’s TVET sector need to be reformed to meet the needs of labour market. It is now timely to review current situation of TVET and identify key strategic directions for the future of TVET in Mongolia. The national framework for SDGs laid out by the Mongolian Government shall be a baseline to revisit some of these goals related to skills training. In this context, UNESCO aims to bring together TVET experts and members of the private sector and international development partners and UN agencies to discuss the best way forward to ensure that every graduate has the necessary skills and competencies required to be employed in the modern workforce. UNESCO invited experts from the Asia and Pacific region, Europe and through the global UNEVOC network to share best practices in TVET aligned to needs of the labour market.
