Governance and Meetings
The Armed Conflict and Heritage Section conducts three statutory meetings, in line with the 1954 Hague Convention and its two (1954 and 1999) Protocols. The statutory Meetings are designed to monitor and review implementation of the 1954 Convention and its two Protocols, taking action and making recommendations when necessary.
- The Meeting of High Contracting Parties to the 1954 Hague Convention is the governing body of the 1954 Convention, which meets once every two years.
- The Meeting of the States Parties to the 1999 Second Protocol is the governing body of the 1999 Second Protocol, which meets once every two years.
- The 1999 Second Protocol Committee has special functions concerning the 1999 Second Protocol, such as the granting of enhanced protection. It meets once a year.
The Secretariat of the 1954 Hague Convention and its two (1954 and 1999) Protocols prepares the documentation and agenda for these meetings, and follows up on any subsequent decisions or recommendations.
