Launch of the Arabic edition of the 2018 World Water Development Report

01 March 2019

The Arabic version of the World Water Development Report 2018 will be launched on 3 March 2019 on the first day of the Fifth Arab Water Week, in Dead Sea, Jordan. The objective of the launch event is to discuss the potential of nature-based solutions to address contemporary water management challenges across all sectors, and particularly regarding water for agriculture, sustainable cities, disaster risk reduction and water quality, featuring real-life examples from different regions of the world and within Jordan. The topic is particularly important from the point of ensuring water security in the Arab region that is under water stress.

The event is organized by UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme. The co-conveners are Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud Foundation, League of Arab States, UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences for the Arab States, ESCWA, FAO and IUCN. The high-level speakers will include HRH Princes Sumaya bint El Hassan of Jordan (UNESCO Special Envoy for Science for Peace) and Eng. Ali Subah (Secretary General of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan) among others. The session will be chaired by the Director of UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States, Ghaith Fariz.
