This report finds that, compared to the situation 20 years ago, young people are entering adolescence in better health and reaching puberty earlier. They are also more likely to attend school, more likely to postpone entering the labor force, and more likely to delay marriage and childbearing. These broad statements, however, capture only the average tendencies for young people in developing countries. The goal of Cyber Cafés, A How-to Manual is to guide youth-serving NGOs in creating cyber caf?s to promote youth's reproductive and sexual health. Within this primary goal, the cyber caf? is an important tool to achieve several other goals. It will allow young people to: 1) access the Internet and search for accurate and up to date information on sexual health; 2) experience community, both online and off; 3) increase youth's computer literacy; and 4) improve youth's job related skills. …
This publication focuses on national efforts to reduce poverty and presents seven arguments for why national public policy makers should give more attention to young people, if these efforts are to be successful. This paper offers a conceptual framework to work out what arguments and supporting evidence in relation to young people are likely to be most appropriate to apply in the context of developing or refining a national poverty reduction strategy. This study compares the effectiveness of audio computer-assisted self-interviewing (Audio-CASI) with face-to-face interviews and self-administered questionnaires in collecting sensitive information on risky sexual and other behaviors among young men in urban India. A randomized study design compared data collected from 900 male college students using the three data-collection approaches and from 600 young men residing in slums using Audio-CASI and face-to-face interviews. …
This study (one of the few of its kind conducted in Laos) provides a wealth of information on the sexual behaviour of young men, which could guide future HIV prevention programs. While the survey only looks at the attitudes and activities of men living and working in Vientiane, it nonetheless illuminates both important similarities and differences in Lao male behaviour compared to men in other countries, including countries in the immediate region.
