Local counterparts for this expert meeting are the French Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), Cairo University Centre for Architectural and Engineering Design and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

The fifth and last Regional Meeting on Modern Heritage in its series was for the Mediterranean Basin at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, in March 2005. This meeting's set-up differed from the previous ones, as it was part of an existing European Commission-sponsored research programme concerning the conservation and management of the 19th and 20th century built heritage of Syria and Egypt (HERCOMANES). The meeting aimed to present and discuss the research programme's results with colleagues from the wider Mediterranean region. Presentations included a wide variety of case studies involving all kinds of aspects of conservation and management of the shared heritage of the 19th and 20th centuries in the wider Mediterranean region. Among others, the following properties and sites in the Arab States countries were presented: The city centre of Alexandria; The resort village of Agami; The city of Cairo; The city of Mansoura; The town of Naqada; The city of Quseir (Egypt), The city of Libid (Jordan), Casablanca (Morocco), The city of Aleppo; The city of Damascus (Syria), Beirut city centre; The city of Tripoli (Lebanon).
