Following the signing of a partnership agreement between the IBE-UNESCO, Mektebim Schools and the Institute of Technology, Economics and Diplomacy (INTED) on 19 December 2018, the IBE co-organised the First International Stem Education Summit in Turkey, which was formally inaugurated by
Sophia-The-Robot, the world’s most well-known AI-powered robot. The event took place at Istanbul Halic Congress Center and it was co-organised with the
INTED and
Mektebim Schools.
Within the partnership, the IBE-UNESCO will create the world's future STEM curriculum that anticipates future trends while remaining pertinent to I4.0 and to the fast-changing 21st-century context. Also, the IBE will serve as a lead technical partner for the establishment of a world-class STEM Laboratory schools through the provinces of the Republic of Turkey, in order to set new global standards on the quality of STEM education and learning. In the long term, it is intended to set the Republic of Turkey aside as a global leader in STEM education and learning. The project is therefore of high strategic value for the country.
The conference was followed by a moderated panel titled ‘‘STEM Revolution for Turkey’s Future Development’’, organized by Mektebim, where the IBE Director presented the initiative to those responsible for teacher training and professional development programs at the Ministry of Education and Turkey's top universities.
