4 October 2018 World Teachers' Day 2018: The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher Since 1994, World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated annually on October 5th. This observance draws attention to the contributions of teachers in educating their communities and developing a more inclusive and sustainable society. (more)

29 August 2018 UNESCO-UNEVOC conducts Management Capacity Development Training in Malawi UNESCO-UNEVOC, in collaboration with the UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA), conducted a capacity development programme for the Managers of TEVET Institutions in Malawi. This training was undertaken as part of the European Union-funded Malawi Skills and Technical Education Programme (STEP). (more)

11 January 2018 Exploring a Work-Based Values Approach in South African TVET Colleges to Improve Employability of Youth New publication by JET South Africa: This literature review focusses on values related to working and workplaces. It argues that the findings can be used to design a values approach to work-based learning in South African TVET colleges. (more)

6 July 2017 E-commerce Training for employment discussed in seminar participated by selected UNEVOC Centres On June 26-28, Zhejiang Technical Institute of Economics organized an international seminar on e-commerce training in Hangzhou, China. UNEVOC Centres from Philippines, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia were also represented. (more)

1 June 2017 SSACI’s workplace based experience Recognizing the need for better quality TVET courses that are more relevant and more effective in enabling youth to find employment, SSACI established a workplace-based experience programme in 50 public TVET colleges in South Africa. (more)

31 January 2017 Young Africa In Mozambique, youth unemployment is high and education programmes are often dependent on international aid. The umbrella organisation Young Africa sets up self-sustaining centres that efficiently prepare students to self-employment. (more)

27 October 2015 UNEVOC attends Regional Meeting in Harare and Mutare, Zimbabwe From 14 to 16 October, 60 participants from eight countries representing ministries, youth organisations, NGOs and other UN agencies met in Harare and Mutare in Zimbabwe for a Regional TVET Meeting. (more)

10 April 2015 Chinese UNEVOC Centre visits fellow Network member in South Africa Two BRICS countries – one Network. Delegates from the Chinese Central Institute for Vocational and Technical Education visited a fellow UNEVOC Centre, JET Education Services, in South Africa. (more)

12 December 2014 New country reports in World TVET Database New country reports have been published for Benin, Cambodia, Chad, Iraq, Latvia, Lithuania, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Qatar, South Africa, Uganda and USA. UNESCO-UNEVOC continues to expand the World TVET Database and more country reports will be available soon. (more)

20 May 2014 Regional Workshop on Youth Transitions and Network Consolidation This workshop, jointly organized by UNESCO-UNEVOC and the Botswana Qualifications Authority, will provide regional and international expertise on school to work transitions by analyzing regional challenges, both in the formal and informal sector, and learning from promising regional approaches. 8 May 2014 Capacity development for skills development in the water and wastewater sector UNESCO-UNEVOC participated in the International Trade Fair on Water organized in Munich, Germany from 5 to 7 May 2014 with the aim to enable the development of new perspectives in TVET for water sustainability and the water-energy connection. 3 December 2013 Regional Forum on Status of TVET in the SADC Region Based on the findings of a regional study conducted by UNESCO on the Status of TVET in the SADC Region, representatives of the SADC Member States convened in Stellenbosch, South Africa from 25 to 29 November 2013 to discuss the progress of actions undertaken to reform their countries’ TVET systems since the assessment. 10 October 2013 New UNEVOC Network Member: Jet Education Services, South Africa In 2012, representatives from Jet Education Services visited UNESCO-UNEVOC as part of a study tour to Germany. The organization’s application to become a UNEVOC Centre was strongly endorsed by the South African Commission for UNESCO. (more)

12 August 2013 Skills for inclusive and sustainable development in Botswana From 27 July to 05 August 2013 and under the kind invitation of the Republic of Botswana, Mr Shyamal Majumdar, Head of UNESCO-UNEVOC, and Ms Mmantsetsa Marope, Director of the Division for Basic Learning and Skills Development at UNESCO, undertook an exploratory mission to Gaborone, Botswana.
