15 March 2018 Network Consolidation Workshop - UNEVOC Network in Europe As part of UNESCO-UNEVOC's efforts to strengthen the engagement of European UNEVOC Centres in Europe, a European UNEVOC Network Consolidation Workshop was held at the UN Campus in Bonn. This workshop aimed at strengthening cooperation and policy learning in TVET within Europe, and facilitating their future cross-regional collaborations with UNEVOC Centres in Africa and Asia. (more)

7 November 2019 2nd BIBB Conference on the Economics of Vocational Education and Training: Markets - Institutions – Systems The German Federal TVET Institute hosts its second conference on the economics of vocational education and training (VET) on November 7th and 8th 2019 in Siegburg. The conference will bring together researchers from all related fields to discuss the most recent empirical and theoretical results on this subject. Conference language is English, registration is open between 1st of August and the 28th of October 2019. (more)

8 April 2019 Work-based Learning as a Pathway to Competence-based Education (A UNEVOC Network Contribution) We are pleased to announce the release of a new publication by German UNEVOC Centre BIBB. Through the contributions of UNEVOC Centres from around the world, this publication provides an analysis of the different dimensions and characteristics of work-based learning and gives a global perspective on WBL as a pathway to delivering competence-based education. 3 April 2019 European conference on Qualifications, Standards and Apprenticeship The conference links BIBB research activities with current European priorities in the field of apprenticeships. It will gather around 60 experts from different European member states, European and national organisations or social partners’ organisations for an open dialogue on selected issues like quality in apprenticeship, ESCO or the development of apprenticeship in different contexts. 16 October 2018 WorldSkills Conference 2018: Building networks for innovative skills solutions The WorldSkills Conference, organized by WorldSkills International and WorldSkills Netherlands, brings together leaders in education, government, and industry from across the globe to share best practices, discuss global trends in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and highlight issues facing skills development. 5 June 2018 Tknika, a UNEVOC Centre, hosts International Conference on TVET Tknika, a UNEVOC Centre in the Basque Country, Spain, organized an international conference titled ‘International Encounters on Vocational Training – Anticipating the Future’. Participants from around the world discussed current and emerging challenges of ongoing digital transformation of industry and businesses, and responding to them through increased collaboration and knowledge exchange. 31 January 2018 Germany supports the revision of the UNESCO Recommendation concerning TVET On 13 November 2015, the 38th UNESCO General Conference unanimously adopted the revised recommendation concerning TVET. The UNEVOC Centre in BIBB had actively participated in the revision process. (more)

31 January 2018 International researchers meet in Germany to discuss Work-based learning On 22 June 2017, in Bonn (Germany), BIBB held a workshop to tie together different perspectives, experiences and approaches while looking at research initiatives from different regions in the world. The resulting exchange of ideas and useful research approaches was meant to support endeavors by members of the UNEVOC network to meet their individual TVET objectives. (more)

31 January 2018 Germany deepens regional exchange in Asia-Pacific From 19 to 20 October 2017 in Nanjing (China), the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) together with its German and international partners, organised several panel discussions, presentations and interactive formats to discuss the role of VET for a sustainable social and economic development. 24 July 2017 Ireland: Access 2 Apprenticeship Pilot Programme Dublin Institute of Technology, a UNEVOC Centre in Ireland, launched a pilot programme to address the current obstacles faced by young people from areas of socio-economic disadvantage in securing an apprenticeship. (more)

20 June 2016 2nd International Congress on Vocational and Professional Education and Training This Congress enables technical discussion between key national and international vocational education and training actors, with the aim being to create better general conditions for the development of international cooperation in the area of dual-track vocational education and training. 30 November 2015 UNEVOC Centre hosts International Symposium on TVET Personnel in Magdeburg, Germany On the 25 and 26 November, 2015, 90 experts convened at an international Symposium on TVET for sustainable development in Magdeburg, Germany. The symposium discussed developments and opportunities with regards to the professionalisation of TVET personnel in international cooperation. (more)

29 June 2015 Turkey has become a member of European Alliance for Apprenticeships Following the Council Declaration of 15 October 2013 on the European Alliance for Apprenticeships, a large number of governments have submitted concrete commitments on next steps to increase the quantity, quality and supply of apprenticeships. 7 January 2015 Supporting Social Partnership in VET in Georgia This paper is prepared within the ETF project “Supporting Social Partnership in VET in Georgia”. Its objective is to provide guidance to the tripartite social partnership in Georgia, i.e. the government and the employers’ and workers’ organisations, on ways and measures to substantially improve social dialogue in VET in Georgia at wider national level, as well as at sector and local levels. 16 December 2014 Green Cities – Green Industries – Green Jobs More and more people live in urban areas. Cities have to find solutions to challenges such as rising traffic and increasing waste. UNEVOC Network member GIZ and the city of Magdeburg invited partners from around the world to discuss challenges and opportunities of green cities and industries, and what this means for the creation of green jobs. 12 December 2014 New country reports in World TVET Database New country reports have been published for Benin, Cambodia, Chad, Iraq, Latvia, Lithuania, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Qatar, South Africa, Uganda and USA. UNESCO-UNEVOC continues to expand the World TVET Database and more country reports will be available soon. (more)

23 September 2014 7th BIBB Congress on Structuring Vocational Education and Training in a more Attractive Way – Facilitating Greater Permeability UNESCO-UNEVOC participated in the 7th BIBB Congress on “Structuring Vocational Education and Training in a more Attractive Way – Facilitating Greater Permeability” held in Berlin, Germany on 18 and 19 September 2014. Among the 800 participants were representatives from various levels of government, social partners, secondary schools, higher education and industry. (more)

18 September 2013 Omnia Finland joins the UNEVOC Network In September 2013, Omnia, the Joint Authority of Education in the Espoo Region in Finland joined the UNEVOC Network. With nearly 10 000 students and 700 staff, Omnia is one of Finland´s largest vocational institutes. (more)

Its VET system needs to prepare students for new labour markets. This has changed the role of vocational teachers.
